Hyper-Converged Systems Take On a Larger Role within Data Center Infrastructures

By George Chacko, Principal Systems Engineer & Lead Technical Consultant, Brocade India

With solutions spanning public and private data centers to the network edge, Brocade helps companies transition to New IP network infrastructures required for today's era of digital business. Founded In 1995, the company has a worldwide employee base of 5000.

By incorporating smart technologies into the data center, facility managers intend to keep track of real time status of components and environmental measurements to keep operations flowing smoothly. How successful can these technologies be for such organizations considering the present abundance of datacentres?

The evolution of the modern data center has taken place on numerous levels. Today, data center managers are looking for ways to optimize their environments and gain an advantage on cost management. Working within a data center environment, administrators must have access to real-time data. They also need to be able to understand this information and act upon it.

Brocade Flow Optimizer enables the network to play a role in understanding anomalous traffic patterns and behaviors, and flags them or takes action in real time. It also enables service providers and enterprises to gain proactive insight into their network traffic, mitigate network attacks, and eliminate network congestion, with the ultimate goal of improving the end user experience. Ultimately, this enables them to deliver a better overall user experience, implement cost controls, and enhance revenue initiatives.

Brocade Analytics Monitoring Platform provides IT staff with the highest levels of monitoring and analytics between servers and storage. As a result, organizations can better ensure predictable performance and operational stability for their IT infrastructures. The appliance analyzes traffic for all network-connected devices, including data flows between both servers and storage devices, to provide end-to-end visibility into the performance of all applications. Performance history and trends are also tracked, which allows IT staff to proactively monitor and resolve issues before they occur.

1.  Hyper-converged systems that bring together key IT system components into one box, or system, that’s managed through a software layer, will take on a larger role within data center infrastructures. Comment as to how do you view this change?

Hyper-converged is one of the fastest-growing methods for deploying IT in the data center. The amount of complexity is extremely high in IT infrastructure and our goal is both from a capital and operating perspective to take those costs down by simplifying the data center infrastructure.

In a hyper-converged system, everything is virtualized from servers, storage, network and I/O, which are used together and made available from one integrated management interface to deliver resources on demand.

Customers that have invested in hyper-converged infrastructure cited scalability and ease of deployment as some of the main advantages. Investing in hyper-converged appliances allows the  IT department to be far more agile in reacting to business demands.

2.  Can you elaborate on the Next gen data centre routing platform by Brocade?

Brocade SLX 9850, a next-generation data center routing solution, is designed to support the exponential growth in network traffic and delivers the advanced functionality that organizations require as they accelerate their digital transformation.

Brocade SLX Insight Architecture provides a new approach to network monitoring and troubleshooting, making it faster, easier and more cost-effective to obtain comprehensive, real-time visibility that is required for network operations and automation.

Leveraging a unique combination of hardware and software innovations, the Brocade SLX 9850 router includes the embedded Brocade SLX Insight Architecture that delivers pervasive network visibility for unparalleled insight to meet increasingly stringent service levels.  It also takes advantage of Brocade Workflow Composer to provide server-based, DevOps-style network automation that integrates across IT domains for end-to-end workflow automation.

In addition, the Brocade SLX 9850 can support up to four million routes, two million full-color statistics and two million policies to address the exponential growth of network bandwidth, devices and services today and in the future. Brocade Workflow Composer supports the SLX 9850 and provides turnkey, customizable and do-it-yourself network workflows to enable customers to embrace automation at their own pace.

How is the market responding to it?

Brocade SLX 9850 trials are happening in different parts of the world. ISPs and CSPs are the target customers for Brocade SLX 9850. We have started discussions with CSPs.
